The Ignatian Spiritual Exercises
The Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius — developed between 1522 and 1524 in Manresa, Spain, after Ignatius's own conversion — are one of the most systematically effective programmes of spiritual transformation in the history of the Church. The 30-day version, in which the retreatant receives a new theme of Scripture for prayer each day and meets with a director for an hour of discernment, produces a depth of encounter with God and oneself that very few other programmes can match.
