About Knock Shrine

On the evening of August 21, 1879, fifteen witnesses saw an apparition of the Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, St. John the Evangelist, and a lamb on the south gable wall of the parish church. Today Knock is Ireland's national Marian shrine and one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the world, visited by Pope John Paul II in 1979.
