About Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes
In 1858, the Virgin Mary appeared eighteen times to 14-year-old Bernadette Soubirous in a grotto beside the Gave de Pau river. Today, Lourdes receives over 6 million pilgrims a year — second only to Rome — drawn by the miraculous spring, the healing baths, and the extraordinary atmosphere of faith and compassion.
